These photographs and Student Church pamphlets from February 1949 advertise the presence of a legend on campus. As the first African American to play a major league sport, Jackie Robinson’s (1919-1972) visit to Bucknell caused a splash not just in the baseball community but for everyone. The item includes this pamphlet as well as photographs of the legendary second baseman and his family with Bucknell students and faculty at the service. The Student Church pamphlet details the church service that Jackie Robinson attends and during which he speaks on “My Story in Baseball.” It provides facts about Jackie Robinson and sections from his book.
