Title
"Southern Integration"
Subject
Discussion of the plight for integration of southern schools
Description
This article from an October 1958 issue of the Bucknellian describes the South's attempt, across multiple states, to thwart integration of schools. Taking examples from Louisiana, Virginia, the Carolinas, and Arkansas, the author describes southern resistance and its effects on school systems. Many schools were shut down for their failure to comply with integration standards, so the article also quotes locals who establish both their frustration with such enforcement and their understanding that states will have to comply to move forward.
