Title
Statement on Discrimination in Fraternities and Sororities
Subject
University position on discrimination and Greek Life
Description
In this official university correspondence from 1965, Bucknell administration issues a statement to fraternities that declares them unable to sanction any discriminatory practice and insists that any organization practicing discrimination must "forfeit its standing and terminate its existence on the Bucknell Campus." A new policy dictates that fraternities must write yearly declarations against discriminatory practices in order for their organization be recognized in the upcoming year. The policy is actually issued in response to a Lewisburg fiasco in which a black student was refused service in a bar downtown.
