Title
Memorandum re: Discrimination
Subject
Bucknell administration examines continued discrimination in fraternities
Description
This official university correspondence from September 1968 shares how Bucknell President Charles Watts (1926-2001) (President from 1964-1976) informs Dean John P. Dunlop (1929-2013) (Dean of Men at Bucknell from 1962-1968; Dean of Student Affairs from 1969-1988) that he will bring up the issue of discrimination in fraternities to an early meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board: "Somebody is going to [make a detailed study of the problem] very soon and we had better be prepared to move in the right direction." Interestingly, Watts also explicitly suggests (for the first time with this issue) that sororities be included in the same demands for reform as the fraternities.
