In this Bucknellian article from November 1948, the author announces that highly decorated scholar and the first African-American President of the historically black Storer College (founded in 1865 in Harper’s Ferry), Dr. Richard McKinney (1906-2005) (who served as President of the college from 1944-1950), will be a guest speaker at a chapel service. This event will be Dr. McKinney’s second time at Bucknell, the first being his week-long visitation “concerning various phases of Christianity and race relations.”
