Title
Bucknell Professor speaks out against segregation at the University
Subject
Professor vilifies segregation at Bucknell
Description
These three files from a 1964 Bucknellian demonstrate different aspects of the social justice advice provided by Bucknell Philosophy professor F. David Martin (1920-2014). Mainly, he reflects on the fact that fraternities and sororities drive the social atmosphere of Bucknell and that these organizations often discriminate against or exclude both black and Jewish students based on their national guidelines. In addition, Martin defends himself after being quoted as saying Bucknell students were particularly “inbred” and “isolated” when he spoke at a Virginia Union University panel. Virginia Union University is a historically black college in Richmond, VA that was founded in 1865. Martin claims his comments were taken out of context.
